Cross Golf hosted its first international tournament with 18 professional golfers. Finally, the winner of the tournament was Dorris Banderas from Austria. And, Mark Bentley from England got the second place and Lale Tuncel from Ankara (Turkey) got the third.

A total of 130 students from 6 schools had this summer the opportunity to get free cross- golf courses in Cappadocia.
The aim was of course to introduce them to that new activity, but also to the concept of responsible tourism. During the next few years, we hope to train these students into confirmed players.

* What are the basic differences between classical Golf and Cross Golf?

Two basic differences exist:

1. You will not play on an artificial constructed field; you will experience the authenticity of nature in the overwhelming surroundings and unaffected valleys of Cappadocia.

2. The aim is to put the golf ball in nets (over a 10 by 10 Inch small area tended) not holes!

* Do we have to use different kind of equipment?

No. Cross Golf will be played with the common equipment everyone knows already.

* Do we have to bring all that equipment (with us) to turkey or is it possible to obtain it from your company in place?

You will be gladly provided with the necessary equipment in place.

* In which seasons do we have the chance to realize our Cross Golf experience?

In all seasons where there is no rain in place. Generally between April-October.

* Is the Golf court limited on a certain area?

No limited set and areas for the game are given. Considering the whether conditions, time and number of players, routes will be planed in advance based on former experiences and the qualification being native inhabitants.

* Why is Cross golf supporting (environmentally-friendly) ‘’Responsible Tourism’’ ?

We are aware, that there is an increasing demand for groundwater in the world and Cappadocia. That is why Indigo Group consciously planning all their projects by respecting the environment as well as the nature.

* What kind of Golf games is provided?

There are two kind of ways at the time being. The first one is a nine net match. This is a Golf match for the player who has a strong handycap and will be played for 2 - 3 hours. The second one: the driving range or target game. This is a game in which the player does not extend that much energy. He will be staying on one fixed spot for hitting an aim which is located in a 45 feets surroundings. To perform this match in a pleasant way there will have been chosen for you the best locations of Cappadocia and moreover a Golf Camp will be established where you have the possibility to avail yourself of drinks and food.

* How many players can play up Cross Golf? (What is the maximum allowed number of Cross-Golf players?)

A maximum of 20 people can play Cross Golf at the same time. A Game that lasts 2-3 hours (depends on the number of players) will be performed in the morning or in the afternoon.

* Are there bad environmental influences caused by Cross Golf in the valleys or elsewhere?

Not at all. Cross Golf’s portable equipment will be fully brought back. It will not cause any permanent harm to the environment during the play.

* How much time before do we have to make our reservation?

You need to make your reservations 24 hours before the beginning of your match.

* Will there be preparations for having caddies and golf cars during the Cross Golf match?

There will be Caddies upon request charged with an extra fee, always keeping in mind that in one of the world’s most beautiful areas which is under the protection of the UNESCO you probably would like to walk or take a horse ride.

* What is “Land”? And what is its significance for the Cross Golf game?

A 60 square ft measured circular area will be marked with flags and in the centre a net will be placed. The circular area is called “land” If the player has succeeded to drop the ball on this area he will be allowed to turn the nets open site towards the ball.

Cappadocia to open its valleys to cross-country golf fans

A tourism agency in the central Anatolian region of Cappadocia, popular among tourists for its chimney rock formations, is planning to promote the area as a cross-country golf venue.

Indigo Tourism already allows its guests to play golf in the Beyaz Vadi (White Valley) in Uçhisar district.

Speaking to the Anatolia news agency, Indigo Tourism owner Ömer Tosun said he had for years dreamed of enabling tourists to play cross-country golf between Cappadocia's fairy chimneys.

He noted that the sport will make a positive contribution to the expansion of tourism activities in the region, adding that the idea of organizing a cross-country golf tournament was introduced at the International Luxury Travel Market in Cannes and that tour operators welcomed the idea.

"We will offer visitors to Cappadocia the opportunity to play cross-country golf in a natural environment. We continue to look for new areas where cross-country golf can be played. We met with some officials from the Ankara Golf Club about this and showed them our valleys. They played golf in the Beyaz Vadi. We researched the places where cross-country golf is played across the world. We learned that cross-country golf does not have defined rules and is played amateurishly. We decided to define the rules of cross-country golf in Cappadocia. In the later steps of our project, we plan to hold an international golf tournament," said Tosun.

Different Rituals, Same Spirit

It seems impossible that after 500 years since golf was invented, such a complementary game could be reinvented. Although Cross Golf emulates the traditional game, it can actually be a more enjoyable and tactical one than the original.

It’s really a revolutionary take on golf. Cross Golf is a game in which, with a conventional but brightly coloured golf ball, you shoot for a goal rather than a hole. Cross Golf is a different matter entirely from the regular game. In it, the atmosphere is much more light-hearted, there is no “dress code” and the aim is to hit your ball into a net. You use the same set of clubs as in golf, minus the putters.

Whether you are a regular golfer or a novice at the game, you are guaranteed to have a lot of fun. It's simple and very sociable and you might even improve your regular golf game! It's a game anybody can play, at any age or standard.

Cross Golf dispenses with manicured lawns, sandy bunkers, a strict dress code and regulations and makes for a moreadventurous game. In this new golf game, the bush and fields are the fairways and fairy chimneys, cliffs, trees and grape vines are the obstacles to navigate. Cross Golf takes young and old on an energetic walk through Turkey's most famous national park, so recognised by UNESCO.

Cross Golf in Cappadocia may be played from April 1^st to October 15^th.

As the Cappadocia region is a national park, its natural environment must be protected for everyone to enjoy today and in the future. Cross Golf provides visitors with a unique golfing experience in a landscape that is usually not explored by anyone other than farmers and animals. Cross Golf uses the natural features of the landscape to challenge even the most experienced golfer.

The fairy chimneys, fascinating rock formations and flora and fauna in the unique environment of Cappadocia remain unaffected by Cross Golf as it is entirely environmentally friendly. Not having to maintain greens means not having to use fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides. Additionally, water reserves are conserved because there are no greens or fairways that require irrigation.

Not only being the responsibility to the nature, but also Cross Golf also gives the best to the community. We organize Summer Camps with professional golf teachers for the children who don't have any opportunity to play golf in Cappadocia. We call it Cross Golf Summer Camp and it's totally free of charge.
